Couldn't play one game, so shooting himself in the thigh pretty much took him out for the rest of the games :S. I don't see what he's gaining from this lol.

So, apparently he was removing the gun for security when he dropped it and shot himself.

The interesting part is that his Florida concealed weapons permit(which expired in May) isn't recognized in New York.

Wow... wtf was it cocked and loaded for? Even if you drop a semi-auto it shouldn't go off because you still either have to ram the slide back or at least drop the hammer. My guess is that he didn't drop it but rather pulled it out with his finger on the trigger and accidentally fired the gun. Though, if what you heard is correct, which it very well could be, then he is a huge idiot.

Burress is a grade A moron. Always has been, always will be. If you are wondering why a professional athlete would carry a pistol, look no further than the number of football players that have gotten shot in the last 12 months. The guy from Denver on New Years was shot to death, the guy in Washington shot and killed at his home outside Miami, and the guy who used to play for Jacksonville had to have his leg amputated from a gunshot wound. And another Denver player got beaten to within an inch of life in Vegas. Back to Burress though, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit when the minimum mandatory sentence for that is three and a half years is stupid. Then knowing that he didn't have a permit he tried to get a teammate to claim ownership of the gun and checked himself into the hospital under a fake name and told them it happened at a restaurant just compounded the problem. And the mayor of New York has publicly stated that he wants the book thrown at him doesn't look good.
